Week 15: Wow, imaslacker

Week 15 officially started yesterday but I worked from home and had appointments so I didn't get a chance to send out the update, sorry about that. Also last night I took my pregnant ass to the gym and walked on the treadmill, it was alright, but I was so afraid to run that I barely broke a sweat. Anyway, moving on.

Note: I don't know what we are having yet, but I'm calling it Squirt and referring to it as a she until I find out otherwise. Makes it easier for me.

Not much new this week on the baby front, as the second trimester is more about growth and less about development. Squirt is growing taste buds (ever wonder what amniotic fluid tastes like? yeah, me neither, yuck!) But the taste buds will help Squirt fall in love with the taste of breast milk after she is born. Squirt's eyes are still fused shut, but much like you or I, she can still distinguish light and dark through her eye lids.

Squirt weighs about 2.5 ounces now, about the same as a small apple. She is about 4 inches long and her legs are growing longer so she looks a little more proportional. The lengthening of her body as well as fat production and lung capacity are all high on the list of things going on inside of there right now.

In news about Mom (ie ME) I am having a fair amount of dizziness and some wicked headaches, one of which struck me last night and I had already planned on going to the gym. Instead of bailing on the gym I went and took it pretty easy. After about 35 minutes and 2 miles on the treadmill my leg went numb and I had to stop.

I've asked my friends and family to help me not be a loser and hide in my house on the couch for the entire pregnancy, as that is my tendency, and so far Erin is rocking it. She is keeping me active and busy and basically being awesome in spite of the fact that sometimes I look like a hot mess when I leave the house with her. She must think there's something good about me if she's willing to continue to be seen in public with me.

I have every intention of running the Mud Run next year, which will be about 2 months after the baby is born. Since I'm not going to be running during this pregnancy, I'll only have those two months to recover from birthing Squirt and get ready for the race. The Plan, go slow and have fun. If I can keep it under 2.5 hours, I will consider it a success. I'm going to have a bigger team next year, which will make it even more fun and I'm looking forward to being able to say, "Yep, that's my 8 week old and I just finished this race! Yeah, I know, I'm awesome."

Hey, walking is better than nothing!!
I used to see this 8 month pregnant lady at my gym and she freaking was running her heart out. I asked someone and they said if you did it before pregnancy and 'can' do it during, without discomfort, then go for it. Not that you have to run....just sayin' is all.

PS I love all the little updates on Squirt!

Yay for week 15. My leg going numb and getting dizzy would freak me out! Maybe ask the doc at your next appointment.

Keep up the good work Mommy.

The love of a friend makes everything possible. Keep up the moving my friend. You can do this and when squirt is born you'll get ready for the rest.
Take care and God Bless!!
